History of Pittwater
Established in 1958, Pittwater RSL Club began its journey in a modest sports pavilion located in the heart of Mona Vale. Due to space constraints preventing the acquisition of a liquor licence, members would personally collect beer cases from nearby hotels. Recognizing the need for a dedicated venue, the local council allocated land on Huxley Street to the RSL Sub-Branch and Club, leading to the establishment of their first permanent premises. This initial clubhouse was ingeniously crafted from a surplus army hut, transported and positioned onto brick piers constructed by dedicated volunteers.
In 1960, as the council redeveloped the area, then-president Bill MacKenzie secured a new location on Mona Vale Road. Despite initial debates over its distance from central Mona Vale, the purchase proceeded, bolstered by a generous loan from Harbord Diggers Club. Volunteers cleared the land, and through a strategic partnership with Miller's Brewery, a new clubhouse was erected. Over the years, Pittwater RSL has evolved into a central hub for the community, offering a diverse range of services and facilities to its members and visitors.
These exciting developments mark a new era for Pittwater - enhancing our facilities, modernising our spaces, and creating even more opportunities for our members and community to connect, play, and enjoy!
